A weekend with the kids.(amoung other excitement)

I must say that the Kids showed out at the south carolina black pride celebration which took place in columbia south carolina. The houses of Mizrahi,St.Claire,revlon,007 all took part in the mini-ball durring the expo. The ball titled"Confesions of a ballroom Vixen" was hosted by the FABULOUS AND LEGENDARY JAY MANOLO BLAHNIK. I was glad to see people of all races enjoying the ball , and being exposed to the rich ball room culture. Even some virgin ballroom women (natural born) stepped up and walked face and runway and won trophies and money.

There were two lesbian rap acts one that was local and one that was from chicago. They both did really good!

Over all the south carolina black pride could use some major work. We do have to keep in mind that this was just the 3rd year that this event has take place. This event and the expo was the only true pride events. Their were no really publicized evening events. No workshops. No pool parties(or parties in general) listed on their website. I had to work too damn hard to find a party for saturday night when I got there fri night. complete waist. No events at the host hotel. I would really like to get my hands in the planning of next years events, but I know that I wouldnt really be able to because I live in north carolina . But I will see anyway.

This weekend did provide me some good relief from some unnexpected drama last week. I lost my job with american express, and thinking about it I cant get mad. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING happens for a reason. I was so stressed after I lost my job which happened on thurs that i couldnt think straight. I had so many plans for the summer that would be put on hold. the biggest thing was the Ms. Plus and Beautiful pageant that I have worked so hard for. The 4 hour runway/dance practices every sunday. the practicing for the categories, the working out I thought would all be in vain....but look at GOD! I was on my way back to north carolina on sunday and I already made up my mind that I wasnt going to be in the pageant because i still needed formal wear , hair appt, shoes....we stoped at the outlets out side of charlotte n.c. and I was on my way to returning the chocalate brown buisness suit i bought for the interview portion(which I love!) when my cell phone was buzzing out of control! I picked it up and it was erica(the pageant owner) and she asked me where was I ? I told her that I wasnt going to make the practice and I wouldnt be able to be in the pageant at all because of financial reasons. and she said " what do you need?" I told her that I hadnt gotten at formal gown yet amoung other things . she asked me "what size do you wear?" i told her. and she says "well another sistah has brought a dress for someone to wear because it is too small for her. and i think it will fit you perfectly! " so at this point i am looking at the phone like OMG! So bassically there was no way that I would not be in this pageant. It was meant for me. so we speed down the highway and I make it to the last 2 hours of practice. I got there and everyone is like try on the gown! so i did and it fit nicely. I want to bust a few crunches to get it right. It is a full figure friendly halter gown(meaning the back is hidden wear it should be...lol) in a deep ruby red color that suits my chocalate complexion nicely. I am so blessed for this oportunity, and I am in it for the experience but I am also IN IT TO WIN IT! so hopefully I can network between this event and the Xchange modeling troop mixer in charlotte to get some local plus modeling work to get my feet wet in the industry! WISH ME LUCK!
